David Segel is Founder and President of the Mako Group, a London-based financial services business focused on liquid, exchange-listed derivatives and contracts. David serves the company and its network of businesses with guidance on strategic initiatives, major partnerships and developing new assets.
David also co-founder of SGL, an investment company that holds a portfolio across a wide array of both commercial and philanthropic endeavours and works in service and partnership with investors, entrepreneurs and leaders.
He is Co-Founder and Chairman of the independent motion picture producer Mpower Pictures and co-creator of Video Genome Project, the world’s largest and most granular database of video metadata, acquired by Hulu in 2016. David currently serves on the Advisory Board of American Rivers, an environmental advocacy agency focused on protecting and promoting health of rivers in the USA.
David is a Wyoming resident, an avid outdoorsmen, and a competitive sailor in Nautor Swan class. He's a qualified airplane pilot and operates primarily bush planes and warbirds. He has explored much of the unvisited world, including a trip on skis to the true north pole in 2004, and a shorthanded journey on a Rigid Inflatable Boat through the North West Passage from Greenland to upper Alaska in 2010, and a 26-day expedition through the Empty Quarter of the Oman desert by foot with Mission Spiritus in 2025.
